A mare's milk replacer developed specifically for horses, the content of which is similar to the mare's own milk composition. Compositions closely resemble natural mare's milk, and are suitable for both motherless foals and foals whose mothers do not produce sufficient amounts of milk.
KRAFFT Milk does not contain the important antibodies that naturally occur in colostrum and provide the foal with protection against diseases. Always consult your veterinarian for motherless foals.
KRAFFT Milk is easy to store in the stable, and in many cases has served as a safety net for breeders, as well as saved the lives of many foals.
Available in 5 kg bags.
Motherless foals
KRAFFT Milk does not provide the important antibodies that are naturally found in colostrum and protect the foal against diseases. In the case of a motherless foal, it is important that the foal consumes 1-2 liters of colostrum, or blood plasma given by a veterinarian, preferably 1-2 hours after birth (max. 12 hours after) in order to survive and build up the immune system.
In acute cases, KRAFFT Milk can improve the chances of survival in foals whose dam died during foaling or during the foal's first weeks of life. In such cases, it is extremely important to contact the veterinarian quickly!
Social contact with other horses is very important and should not be forgotten with motherless foals. Try to find a playmate for the foal early on and do not handle the foal more than necessary. The foal is already highly conditioned and dependent on humans. The foal should instead be given the opportunity to identify with and interact with other horses.
General advice
- For the first few days, the foal should be kept in a warm, clean stable, free from drafts. Later, the temperature can be lowered. Use a heat lamp if necessary to keep the foal warm.
- Check that the foal does not develop an umbilical infection. If necessary, dip the navel in a diluted Jodopax solution.
- The young foal is not able to handle large amounts of salt, and the amount in mare's milk and KRAFFT Milk is adapted to the foal's needs. If there is a salt rock in the box, it is a good idea to place it out of reach of the foal until it is at least 6 months old.
Feeding instructions KRAFFT Milk
Mix KRAFFT Milk in 50 degrees Celsius water in a thoroughly cleaned bucket and let the foal drink when the mixture is 38 – 40 degrees Celsius. The temperature should always be checked with a thermometer. If the foal drinks too early, it can get the milk in its lungs. Therefore, serve KRAFFT Milk with the foal’s head held low.
Offer the foal high quality hay, both nutritionally and hygienically. The ideal hay for foals contains at least 70g of digestible protein per kg. Replace the hay regularly and ensure that the foal always has access to clean water, placed in a low position so that the foal can drink with a natural head position (not too high).
Bedding must be dust-free and in ample quantities to avoid bedsores.
Give the foal access to concentrates, e.g. KRAFFT Foal, after a few weeks. Start with small amounts, which are poured into the bucket after giving KRAFFT Milk. Gradually reduce the amount of KRAFFT Milk when the foal starts to eat sufficient amounts of roughage and concentrates. If the protein content of the hay is insufficient, a supplement of e.g. KRAFFT Muscle Up is needed.
1 dl Milk powder = approx. 50 g.
100 g Milk powder = approx. 1.5 dl Milk.

Think about:
- Only prepare one serving of KRAFFT Milk at a time.
- Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the mixture.
- It is advisable to use a bowl and whisk that are easy to clean thoroughly after each meal preparation with KRAFFT Milk.
- To achieve precise dosage, a baking scale can be a good help.
- There are feeding bottles for use with foals, but feeding bottles for lambs also have a long and soft teat for foals.
